How Pattlist’s smart grocery suggestions work
Pattlist learns what your household buys and how often, then suggests what you’re running low on. How suggestions work, how to hide one, and the limits.

How Pattlist learns what you need
You don’t set anything up. Every time someone ticks an item off a list, Pattlist records what was bought and when. Over time it learns the rhythm of that list: the milk that runs out every few days, the coffee you buy every fortnight, the staples that go on every weekly shop.
From that history, Pattlist works out which products the list is probably running low on and suggests them before your next trip. Suggestions belong to a list, so your weekly groceries and your hardware list each get their own.
Add a suggestion to your list
Suggestions appear under RECOMMENDED FOR YOU at the top of a list, as chips you can tap.
- Tap a suggestion.
- It’s added to the list, with the marker Pattlist suggests for it.
A product that’s already on the list isn’t suggested, and tapping a suggestion twice in a hurry only adds it once.
Hide a suggestion you don’t want
Choose Do not recommend on a suggestion and confirm. It disappears for everyone on the list, not just you. If you change your mind before confirming, the suggestion stays.
Pattlist also learns from this: once a product has been dismissed three weeks in a row, it stops suggesting it for good.
How many suggestions you get
What you see depends on the plan of the list’s owner:
- Free: up to 3 suggestions per list each day. Suggestions you’ve already added or hidden still count towards that day’s 3. Pattlist then offers Plus for the rest.
- Plus: every suggestion, with no daily limit, for the owner and everyone on the list.
If you’re a member of someone else’s free list, Pattlist suggests asking the owner for more, since one Plus subscription covers everyone on the lists it owns.
Getting better suggestions
- Tick items off as you buy them, rather than deleting them. Deleted items don’t teach Pattlist anything.
- Use the same list for the same kind of shop, so its rhythm is clear.
- Give it a few trips. Suggestions get sharper as the history grows.
