Sort your shopping list by the store you’re in

Pattlist’s Near me sort puts what you usually buy at the store you’re in at the top of your list. How it works, how to turn it on, and what it records.

What Near me does

Near me is a sort order for your list. When you’re in a store, it puts first the items you usually buy at that store, so you can grab them without scrolling. Walk into a different store and the order changes to suit it. Near me is included on the free plan.

Turn on Near me

  1. Open a list and tap the list view button above your items.
  2. Under Sort, choose Near me.
  3. The first time, Pattlist explains how it uses your location. Tap Continue.
  4. When your phone asks, choose Precise location and While Using the App, so Near me can tell which store you’re in.

If you tap Not now or refuse location access, your list falls back to alphabetical order, and Pattlist explains again the next time you choose Near me. Once you’ve allowed access, Near me just works with no more questions.

How it learns where you buy things

With location allowed, Pattlist notes roughly where you are when you tick an item off as bought. Over time that builds up a picture of what you buy at each store.

  • Without location permission, Pattlist records nothing and doesn’t ask for anything.
  • If your phone can’t tell where you are, or only roughly (more than about 200 metres out), that purchase is simply skipped.
  • Purchases ticked off offline are sent once you’re back online.
  • Recent purchases count for more than older ones, so the order keeps up as your habits change.

Pattlist only asks for location when you choose Near me or turn on store reminders: never when you start the app, sign in, tick items off or use other sorts.

Shared lists

On a shared list, Near me ranks items by your own purchases, so the order on your phone suits the stores you shop at, and your partner’s phone suits theirs.

Without a connection

If Pattlist can’t reach the server, for instance with no signal at the back of the store, it ranks the list from the purchases saved on your phone instead, without interrupting you.
