Lists and sharing
How to share a shopping list with your family
Invite your partner, family or housemates to a Pattlist shopping list by email, so everyone sees the same items and nobody buys the milk twice.
Updated October 23, 2026
Before you start
- The person you invite needs a Pattlist account. If nobody uses Pattlist with that email address, Pattlist tells you so and doesn’t create an invite. Ask them to install the app and sign up first.
- The list’s owner and its admins can invite people. Members can’t. See owners, admins and members.
- You need a connection to send an invite.
Invite someone to a list
- Open the lists menu and tap the settings (gear) icon next to the list.
- Under Shared with, tap Invite People.
- Enter their Email Address. Capitals and spaces don’t matter.
- To let them invite and remove people too, turn on Make Admin.
- Tap Send Invite.
The invite appears in the list’s settings as pending until they answer. Pattlist won’t send it if you enter your own email, someone already on the list, or someone who already has an invite waiting.
Accept or decline an invite
Pattlist sends a notification when you’re invited to a list. Tapping it opens the invite. Invites also wait in the lists menu under PENDING INVITES, marked NEW.
- Accept opens the shared list with all its items. It now appears under SHARED LISTS, and the owner sees you as a member.
- Decline removes the invite for both of you. The owner can invite you again later.
Cancel an invite
In the list’s settings, choose Cancel invite next to the pending invite. It’s removed for both of you. Admins can cancel invites that someone else sent.
Shopping together
Everyone on a shared list sees the same items. When someone adds, ticks off or deletes an item, it changes for everyone, so nobody buys the milk twice.
On lists owned by a Plus subscriber, changes appear in real time. On free lists, they appear when you reopen the app or open the lists menu. See how syncing works.
How many people can join
- Free: 2 people per list, which means you and one other person. Pending invites count towards this.
- Plus: as many people as you like on the lists you own. Everyone on them gets Plus features on that list without paying. See Pattlist Plus.
